2nd day ~ @ Bangkok, Thailand

On that morning, I woke up with nervousness… this is my first presentation with international audience. Not really international la, regional is most appropriate, but still… there are not Malaysians, their school of thought is different, their perception is different.

My session is at the morning. I am so relieved… cepat sikit hilang beban ni… First session is basically the opening remarks from Head of both universities, keynote speakers from both universities, and afterward, we were divided into groups for oral presentation.

I was the third person if I’m not mistaken. Memula nak present tu, cuak dah mula hilang, and minute after minute, nervous tu dah hilang and I was kind of enjoying it. Tapi, bila sampai part Q&A, nervous tu kind of datang balik. Though personally I would say, I am not satisfied with this presentation (cause I know I could do a lot much better), but, it make me feel good, feel nice and a little bit proud of myself. There were a lot of questions being asked. The head of Env Eng Dept Chula Univ is also there, he asked me, me answering his, he nodded frequently, as if my answers are reasonable (who cares, anyway…), but it made me feel good, it made me confident, and the most important is, it made me happy. Then, Prof Rao asked, I tried my best to provide the best answers (but, obviously, it is not), and at some points, Dr Sumiani added up her comments, kind of like helping me, but overall, it was OK. And with that, I ended the presentation. Once I said thank you, Prof Rao said these magic words with his encouraging tone… “That’s good Nuruol, very good, very details, very research oriented”. I cant help myself from smiling and beaming, and beaming and beaming for the rest of the day . Can’t wait to tell Abang. I was so happy, (enthusiastic I would say), and proud of myself. I promised myself, this is only the beginning, I will try harder, to make myself noticed, to make myself among the best. I will…

Then, lunch time. The best part is, the lunch was so delicious, so nice. It was all seafoods. Various kind of seafoods, fish, shrimps, squid, except crab je xde. If I’m not mistaken, ada 4-5 lauk la jugak. Dengan rasa relief yg teramat, ditambah pulak dengan lunch yg memang sedap gile, ditambah pulak dgn cheerful environment, it was really nice. Eating, beaming, taking photos, beaming, studying maps, beaming, planning our tour for tomorrow, beaming, having chat with Dr. Thaksit, beaming, I felt like I was a kerang busuk . But, who cares. I am enjoying these

Lepas makan, we went to visit the environmental engineering dept’s labs. One thing that I could say, it is impressive. They have their own department for environmental engineering, not depending to the other department, they have 18 full time staffs with 7 labs. All labs are equipped with all these high-tech equipments, which, we would not be able to afford. Then, we proceed with the afternoon session, tea time, photo session and ended with visits to civil labs.

But, this time, we didn’t go with them, as we have already visited the env eng dept during lunch time. Instead, we walked around campus with hope that we could find any signage with Chulalongkorn University written on it. But, we didn’t find any, so we went to the university bookstore and we bought a glass with Chula University logo on it (which later we found that it is the same glass provided in the guest house… tapi yg kat guest house x boleh bawak balik la).

Around 8, they took us to the one of the best restaurants in town. They said it is known for their chilli crabs. And again, it is delicious, superb, marvellous… Lepas dah makan-makan, they presented us with token of appreciation. A very beautiful Chula Univ mug (if only I knew they would give us this lovely mug… argh). Lepas session tukar-tukar hadiah, we took photos, and ready to leave. Tapi, yg x sedapnya, balik tu kena jalan kaki la pulak, because there is no van provided during night. Tapi, x kisah la.. Exercise… Lagipun, it is the best way to explore cities, isn’t it?? Walaupun penat sikit, but I was enjoying it.

But, this is not the end of the day, we still have another plan. Walaupun Su n Pn Budhi x nak join, the plan is still on. We went to Patpong. They always say, if you experience Patpong, that means that you already experience the nightlife at Bangkok. For the whole day, I heard a lot of negative things about Patpong, it is not a good place, you cannot do this, you cannot do that, and it makes me wondering.. is it really that bad?? But then, bila dah jalan separuh, I found that it is not as bad or as scary as what people think. It just a street (kind of like Petaling street), filled with bars that served strip tease as their main menu. And, it is not that you can see them performing naked at the curb of the street, instead, it is a very private pub which you need to pay and go into the special rooms if you want to see them naked and do all this erotic dances bla bla bla. People always exaggerating things. Belief me, I’ve seen more in Vegas. Tapi, walaupun private pubs, their door is open, and you can peek inside. What I saw was… there was a huge platform with all these tiang… and the dancers are doing all these erotic dances bla bla bla. Tapi kalau yang nampak dari luar ni, semuanya still ada knickers and bikini tops on them la. If you want to see more, you masuk bayar la . Kat patpong pun ada banyak stall yg jual souvenirs, macam petaling street la. Banyak gak habis duit aku, beli t-shirt 4 helai, beli beg, beli purse, and bila penat, berenti beli soda dalam botol macam zaman dulu2 tu. Rasa cool gile lak minum macam tu.. hahahaha. Tapi ada satu stall yg special kat sini, ada satu stall tu dia jual patung. Patung perempuan made from fabrics yang bila pegang rasa macam pegang kulit orang. And, they designed it with all the shapes and curves yang memang dah Nampak mcm orang betul. Sesape yg desperate tu boleh la… hehehe. Dah penat berjalan, balik guest house… tidur……
